Afonso's journey with Pestalozzi International began with a single, life-changing opportunity. Like many of the young people we support, Afonso grew up facing significant barriers - economic hardship, limited access to quality schooling, and few role models who had been through higher education.

Through the holistic Pestalozzi approach - "Head, Heart, and Hands" - Afonso gained not only academic knowledge but the confidence, resilience, and life skills needed to thrive beyond the classroom. Mentors and alumni helped shape Afonso's aspirations around music, refugee rights and community leadership, and the wider Pestalozzi community provided a sense of belonging that continues to this day.

Today, Afonso is using that foundation to give back. Whether through professional achievement, community work, or supporting the next generation of Pestalozzi students, Afonso's story is a reminder of what becomes possible when young people are given the chance to lead change in their own communities.
